Memories
Sunday, 28 December 2008 . 16:35
I gently awake to soft lightAs I bid farewell to the dark, cold night.
The clinging and clanging of pots and pans
Running tap water and opening cans,
I smile as my dreams and reality combine
And I stretch my body pleasingly cracking my spine.
Sit up in bed and pull off the sheet
To discover only one sock covers my feet!
Grumbling tummy and sleepy eyes
I tip-toe the stairs in naughty disguise
I spy on the kitchen watching recipes underway
And absorb every second of this simple day.
A dish cloth almost catches on fire
When the oven door opens; I watch and admire
The work of art being pulled out of the heat,
A sweet chocolate cake which I can’t wait to eat!
In a split of a second I’m at heaven’s door,
And I peep into the oven looking for more…
And there it is, its all for me,
Waiting for me to eat, for free!
A jam tart with strawberry filling,
Just the thought of it is thrilling!
I look at my mum and my look says it all,
It says “amazing, I love you, and thank you for all!”
This is just one of the endless memories I’d known,
Memories which I’m gradually starting to own…
Memories are precious, but are easily lost,
So be sure to cherish them at all costs!
